The reward for humility and fear of the Lord
is riches and honor and life.Proverbs 22:4
What a humbling verse. Those who are humble and fear the Lord will be rewarded with riches and honor and life! What a beautiful promise! I think there are probably two reactions when people read this verse. Either you feel encouraged because this is a life you strive to live-a humble, reverent life. Or, you may feel discouraged because you are struggling to live in this humble state.
Are you encouraged? Great! This probably means that God is working in your life in the area of humility. You probably have a healthy respect and fear of the Lord and look forward to the blessings that are to come.
Are you discouraged? It’s ok. Let it challenge your heart. Humility isn’t a characteristic we are born into. We have to work at being humble. Know that your Heavenly Father desires for you to be in a humble in reverent position with Him lifted High. If this is difficult for you, give it to the Lord and ask for the strength to Trust Him with all your heart. Ask Him to help you to live in a way that is honoring and magnifying to Him…then wait for the rewards!
Lord, help us to humble ourselves before You and live a life that lifts You high! We thank You for the promise of the rewards we will receive when we follow your commands. We are so undeserving of your riches and honor and life. May we live in a way that pleases you.
